Pharaoh Ants

Pharaoh ants are one of the harder species to deal with on this list. This is because when they are exposed to pesticides, they will scatter and build new colonies elsewhere. They can grow up to 1.5mm to 2mm long and has a very distinct light yellow color with a brown abdomen. Their colonies also consist of multiple queens. Pharaoh ants prefer to build their colonies in places where there are moisture such as walls, furniture and appliances.

Carpenter Ants

Commonly mistaken for termites, Carpenter ants will build their colonies in wooden structures. Carpenter ants are mainly harmless as they do not bite or sting. They usually feed on honeydew and sometimes even insects. Each ant can grow up to half an inch and is usually black or brown depending on the species. Similar to the Pharaoh ants, they prefer places where there is moisture so you will find them more commonly in wet wood.

Ghost Ants

Ghost ants get their name from their translucent body. They prefer sugary and sweet food. Ghost ants tend to build colonies under kitchen sinks where the environment is moist. They can be found to be around 1.2 mm to 1.6 mm long.
